About Scene on Screen

Welcome to Scene on Screen!
Hi! I’m Josh, a long time film and TV enthusiast with a passion for travel, photography and seeing those little bits of magic that brings a story to the screen. For a while I have been fascinated by how film companies will use the simplest of street corner, a sprawling countryside or an everyday landmark to create a backdrop for some of the most unforgettable scenes in movies and TV shows.
During my time at university in Manchester, I noticed that places I had been to were popping up more and more in the things I was watching. Taking these photos out to where they filmed, taking a photo and comparing the two views became more and more fun. Then, turning to Instagram and sharing these locations, helped me not only share my joy of the locations I was finding, but meant I could connect with other people who found the same joy. And it brings me to today when I am 4 years in and still getting the same thrills I did when I first started.
So whether it be a gritty street from a crime drama, a stately home with that period piece feel or a major city from the most recent blockbuster, I hope more and more people can find the same joy in my posts.
Thank you for being here and let’s explore the world one filming location at a time!

When planning content for Scene on Screen, it always starts with research. Either the backdrop is so recognisable or it takes searching through news reports and location databases to pin down the exact spot. Then I work on the camera angles, lighting and details to work out how they used the location on the screen. It’s also fun to work out how I can fit multiple locations from various shows when they are scattered across the same city, making the most of each trip.
Taking all the photos on my phone proves you don’t always need expensive equipment. I do however sometimes use my Canon EOS, DJI Mimo & drone to show better details of the location. Doing this means that hopefully more people who interested in set-jetting, can experience the same thrill of these everyday accessible locations.
Using this website will mean that I can share more details on each location that I visit. Including scene comparisons, location guides, behind the shot stories, and links to my interactive map to see where all the locations are. Each week there will be 3 posts, with a location highlight on Monday, a post on Wednesday and a post about a new film/TV show on Saturday. You can also read about my upcoming trips to see where I am going next!
