London isn’t just a hub for history, culture, and iconic landmarks, it’s also a secret playground for superheroes. From the bustling streets of Westminster to the historic corners of Greenwich, the city has doubled as key settings in some of the biggest Marvel movies and series. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the Avengers, a Loki enthusiast, or obsessed with the multiverse, this guide will take you on a cinematic journey through London, showing where your favourite heroes once fought, schemed, and eventually saved the day.

Grab your camera, put on your superhero cape, and get ready to walk in the footsteps of Marvel’s finest. From iconic squares to hidden gems, I’ve mapped out a tour that’s as thrilling as any blockbuster scene — no CGI required. So join me as we start our adventure in the heart of tourist London, Trafalgar Square.

Trafalgar Square - Captain America: The First Avenger

ree

Trafalgar Square isn’t just a landmark for tourists — it’s where Steve Rogers first steps into the fight against Hydra in Captain America: The First Avenger. The square’s iconic fountains and Nelson’s Column make it instantly recognisable on screen.

Fun fact: Marvel chose this location to give Captain America’s WWII-era heroics a distinctly European flavor. Snap a photo and imagine Captain America leaping into action right in front of you.

Transport to next location: Walk 5 minutes down Whitehall or Northumberland Avenue.

Great Scotland Yard - Doctor Strange

ree

This historic street near Whitehall served as a backdrop for Doctor Strange’s mystical adventures. In Doctor Strange, the area helps set the tone for the more secretive and mysterious parts of London.

Fun face: Great Scotland Yard is famously linked to the original Metropolitan Police headquarters—perfectly fitting for a superhero navigating the hidden layers of the city.

Transport to next location: Walk 15 minutes or by District/Circle tube from Embankment to Temple.

Noel Coward Theatre & Surrey Steps - Loki

ree

Surrey Steps were also used for a short scene of Loki walking around the backstreets and through the tunnel hidden in London. Nearby the West End comes to life in Loki, with the Noel Coward Theatre dressed up for the theatre showing Brad Wolfe's 'Zaniac'.

Fun fact: Marvel often films in London’s theatre districts to capture that blend of historical charm and modern urban life—a perfect setting for the God of Mischief’s unpredictable adventures.

Transport to next location: Walk 17 minutes or take the Northern tube from Leicester Square to Goodge Street.

UCL Senate House Library - Secret Invasion

ree

This iconic Bloomsbury location doubles as a mysterious facility in Secret Invasion. Trivia: The library’s imposing, neoclassical architecture gives off a secretive, almost otherworldly vibe—perfect for S.H.I.E.L.D. operations or Skrull infiltration scenes.

Fun fact: Fans of the series love photographing its grand staircase and impressive façade, not only for its use in the show but its many many appearances on film and TV.

Transport to next location: Elizabeth line from Tottenham Court Rd to Farringdon or Metropolitan line from Euston Square to Barbican.

St Bartholomew the Great - Avengers: Age of Ultron

ree

One of London’s oldest churches, St Bartholomew the Great was used in Avengers: Age of Ultron, for its atmospheric, ancient architecture, giving the movie that mystical vibe.

Fun fact: Marvel loves filming in places that feel like they’ve stood for centuries—perfect for a sorcerer whose powers manipulate time and space.

Transport to next location: 9 minute walk to One New Change or Circle line from Barbican to Aldagate for Lloyd's building.

Lloyd's Building & One New Change - Guardians of the Galaxy

ree

The futuristic glass-and-steel exterior of the Lloyd’s Building in the City of London made it a perfect stand-in for a high-tech corporate or alien environment in Guardians of the Galaxy. The rooftop of One New Change made for a great futuristic world with its metallic architecture and sweeping views over London.

Fun fact: Lloyd's building unique “inside-out” design is instantly recognisable, and many fans have noted it looks like a building straight out of a sci-fi comic book.

Transport to next location: 17 minute walk or various buses which go across the bridge just like in the movie.

Tower Bridge - Spider-Man: Far From Home

ree

Tower Bridge is instantly recognisable and served as a key action set in Spider-Man: Far From Home, for that iconic scene of Peter Parker kissing MJ after the battle. Whilst they did film on the glass skybridge above, they intricately recreated the road bridge in studio for close up filming.

Fun fact: The bridge’s combination of Victorian Gothic design and industrial engineering made it the perfect London landmark for Spidey’s acrobatic stunts across the Thames. It’s also one of the most photogenic spots on the tour!

Transport to next location: Riverboat (Tower Millennium Pier - Greenwich Pier), Thameslink train (London Bridge - Greenwich), or Jubilee & DLR (London Bridge - Canary Wharf - Island Gardens).

Greenwich Naval College - Thor: The Dark World & Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

ree

This UNESCO World Heritage site hosted scenes for both Thor: The Dark World and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In Thor, it was used as the iconic location itself for when Jane, Darcy & Erik help Thor send Malekith's ship back. In Doctor Strange, it was used as the church for Dr Palmer's wedding which Doctor Strange & Nicodemus West attend.

Fun fact: Its grand Baroque architecture doubles as Asgardian palaces and magical realms, proving Marvel’s knack for blending real-world landmarks with otherworldly fantasy.

Transport to next location: 1 hour walk through Greenwich & Lewisham or 129/199 bus to Lewisham and then 122 bus to Crofton Park.

Rivoli Ballroom - Avengers: Age of Ultron

ree

The Rivoli Ballroom adds a classic, vintage feel that was used in Avengers: Age of Ultron for an atmospheric WWII dance hall scene. To date you can still visit here for that vintage feeling with organised dances and events in the hall.

Fun fact: Its original 1950s décor with glittering chandeliers and retro murals gives a distinctive, nostalgic vibe—perfect for scenes that need a touch of old-school glamour.

Transport to next location: 172 bus Beecroft Rd to Waterloo & Jubilee line from Waterloo to Wembley, or Thameslink from Crofton Park to Farringdon & Metropolitan line from Farringdon to Wembley Park.

Wembley Civic Centre - Avengers: Age of Ultron

ree

The tour ends northwest at Wembley Civic Centre, which was featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This scene between Hulk and Ironman in Johannesburg was actually filmed in London where the majority of other filming had taken place.

Fun fact: This location provided a modern civic backdrop, showing that even everyday London spaces can feel cinematic when heroes are on the move. It’s a great spot to reflect on the day’s Marvel adventure before heading home.

Whether you’re a hardcore Marvel fan or just someone who loves exploring the city with a cinematic twist, these spots offer a unique way to experience London through the lens of the MCU.

Whether you’re imagining Captain America taking a stand at Trafalgar Square, Thor performing rituals in St Bartholomew the Great, or Spider-Man swinging past Tower Bridge, this tour lets you step straight into the Marvel Universe, without needing superpowers.
